The Spaceitar

...then i needed an instrument that was exotic and playable...something that had a
bit of a twang and no feedback problems like the Monolin (loud = feedback)...So,
one day I was rummaging around in some neightbors trash I found a pretty decent
guitar neck.  It was cool cause it has a zero fret..which most guitars don't have.
But then I had to build a body around it.  I had no clues about luthier stuff so I
winged it in true DIY fashion...I decided to build a body out of paper mache and
basswodd sticks.  I used an old pick-up from The Mako...its a strong pickup too,
suspended by a circular etched copper plate.  Well then I made the bridge out of a
few different things till I got it right.  I wanted the twang of a sitar so I did the
research on the sitar bridge...well it turns out that there are dude who spend tens
of years making the bridges perfect...so spent a great deal of time ---4 hours-..and
eventually figured out a few things to make it work out of a piece of 1/4 inch
steel...as opposed to the camel bone they use.........then I covered the whole thing
in fabric..and mod-podged it...
This instrument is a crucial
member of Art Lessing.  It has
been on every cd since Opener,
when I built it.   At one point the
tailpeice caved in and I had to
overhaul it and reinvent its
tail..but since then its gooood to
go!!
